Eliminate all processed, packaged foods and choose organic, sustainable animal proteins that are fed their species' appropriate diet. Eat plenty of leafy green vegetables and healthy sources of fats like coconut oil and avocado. Eliminate all gluten, grains, refined sugar, hydrogenated oils, dairy and legumes. CUT THE CRAP with the artificial sugar. I know, Diet Coke is so good and calorie free and carb free. But I promise you, if you can get that out of your diet, you will lose weight. Drink water or unsweetened green tea instead. My last 1. 0 lbs came off when I finally cut out Diet Coke and Crystal light. Go to bed satisfied, not full. Having a gigantic meal before bed is not the best idea when trying to lose weight. Don't nibble after dinner. And stay away from that dark chocolate! You don't need it. Try drinking decaf tea or a BIG glass of water while winding down before bedtime. Cut the booze. I know; this is super hard. They say to stick to red wine on the paleo diet, but that can really be detrimental to weight loss, especially if you drink it the way I do. If you must drink, stick to clear spirits and club soda. I drink vodka/soda with lime almost religiously. One more note on drinking: the more you drink, the more likely you are do stray away from your dietary goals. Exercise. On the paleo diet, you are most likely eating a lot of protein. Use this opportunity to build some muscle! The more muscle you have, the faster your metabolism will be. Fasting, severe calorie restriction, excessive exercise and dehydration may help you get into a lower wrestling weight class, but you'll pay a steep price. You may feel fatigued, unfocused, weak and downright sick as a result of such extreme, unhealthy tactics. None of these side effects help you win a match. You can drop weight classes if you're aiming for a weight that's still healthy, but lean for you. But, if you have to sacrifice smart nutrition or performance, re- evaluate your goals to determine a safe weight for competition. When a wrestler has his mind set on the notion that competing in a lower weight class will give him an advantage, he'll do almost anything to cut weight. This deprivation usually backfires, however. Dropping to a lower weight class doesn't make you a better athlete - - focusing on training does. When you fast or severely deplete calories to lose weight quickly, you rapidly lose muscle tissue and water. Your body senses the extreme deficit and uses your lean tissue for energy. This is the muscle you need for strength and endurance in a match. Denying yourself calories means denying your body nutrients that are critical to proper growth and energy. Extreme exercise to lose weight overly fatigues you so that you're not 1. Laxatives, sauna suits and cutting out entire nutrient categories - - such as all carbohydrates - - are strategies that are downright dangerous and you should avoid these tactics at all costs. If you're not careful, you may even diet yourself out of competition. American wrestling programs institute the national hydration assessment test to make sure wrestlers are healthy enough to wrestle. When a boy dips below a body fat of 7 percent - - or a girl below 1. Wrestlers often use dehydration as another weight- cutting tactic. Some wrestlers can safely lose 3 pounds per week, but weight loss that's faster than this results in muscle loss. Good nutrition is part of proper training. Losing a pound of fat requires a calorie deficit of 3,5. Talk to your coach or a school dietitian to determine your daily calorie burn, based on your size and activity level, and create a daily deficit of about 5.
